GRADUATE STUDIES OR RESEARCH IN COLOMBIA ICETEX finances the following items: Installation expenses, tuition, living cost, books, study materials, medical insurance, thesis expenses, airport taxes and unexpected expenses. The approval period covers up to two years. ICETEX will study the requests for longer periods. The documents, duly fulfilled, must be sent to ICETEX through our diplomatic representations (Embassy or Consulate) around the world to be considered by a committee at ICETEX, considering the following criteria: o Fulfilment of all requirements. o Country of origin to evaluate the reciprocity agreement. o Approved budget for the program. The approval decisions are informed to Embassies and/or Consulates, Colombian academic institutions and scholars. APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR YEAR 2006 If you are a foreign citizen interested in pursuing graduate studies in Colombia, you must submit the requested documents in our diplomatic representations in your country of origin. Diplomatic representation will send the documents to the International Relations Deputy Direction of ICETEX in Bogota, Colombia. Foreign students who are pursuing graduate studies in Colombia, with student visa, can submit their application if they fulfill all requirements within the proper deadlines. Students can come with courtesy visa. The requests from foreign citizens who held resident visa or double Colombian nationality will not be considered. Deadline for submitting documents will be: In Colombian diplomatic representations abroad: Until November 16th, 2005. Deadline for Application at ICETEX: December 5, 2005 The Evaluation and Selection Committee will be held on: December 16, 2005 for foreign students who start in 2006. Untimely and incomplete documents will not be considered. As of December 21, 2005, you will find in our Website the selection results. This decision will be also informed by e-mail. ICETEX will also inform this result to the Foreign Diplomatic Representations in Colombia and to Colombian Diplomatic Representations abroad so they can issue the courtesy visa (expedition). To obtain more information about visa requirements, Colombian Consulates and Embassies abroad addresses, you can consult the Website: www.minrelext.gov.co SCHOLARSHIP ALLOWANCES FOR YEAR 2005 PERMANENT: " Tuition and Academic Fees covered by Universities in agreement with ICETEX " Medical Insurance " Living Costs ONCE: " Installation Stipend " Stipend for Books and Study Materials (only one time) " Thesis Expenses (If it is necessary according the academic program ) " Unexpected Expenses (Foreignness Certificate) " Colombian Airport Taxes Exemption (Approximately $96.000 Colombian Pesos) IMPORTANT: " Full and some partial scholarships will be granted depending on reciprocity between both countries and student academic level when he/she submits the application. Partial scholarships will cover all expenses except living costs, and the student can accept or resign to it, according to his/her convenience. " Partial or full scholarship changes will not be considered by ICETEX. " Approved items cover as of four academic semesters. If the program is longer than this period, the student must submit an extension request which will be considered by ICETEX. " The round- trip air tickets cost from the country of origin to the Colombian destination city will be financed by the student in any of two scholarship modalities. REQUESTED DOCUMENTS 1. ICETEX Application Form that can be obtained in Colombian Diplomatic Representations abroad or printed from our Website: www.icetex.gov.co 2. Acceptance to academic program in one of the registered Colombian academic institutions. (See attached list) If academic program is not included, the scholarship request will be rejected. Contacts for admission must be performed by the applicant directly. 3. University degree copy, certified by Colombian Diplomatic Representation. 4. Certificate of residence in the country of origin, given by the competent authority. 5. Spanish Language Certificate of Knowledge, given by the competent authority (if the applicant is not Spanish native speaker). 6. Description of Studies Project: From 3 to 4 pages in Spanish, with a summary of plan, motivation and application in Colombia of the studies to be developed. 7. Occupational Experience Certificate (optional). 8. Certificate of good health, both physically and mentally, (no longer than three months of expedition). 9. Nomination Letter from Ministry of International Affaires, Culture or Education of country of origin or from institution in charge of this matter.
